Westin Rio Mar Beach . Puerto Rico

Dear Colleague:

Please plan to join us for the 9^th Conference on the Intersections of Particle and Nuclear Physics (CIPANP 2006), which will be held at the Westin Rio Mar Beach Resort and Country Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, May 30-June 3, 2006. The meeting site is completely self-contained; all sessions will be held in the conference center on the property. The resort, which comprises nearly 500 acres (200 hectares) and features a 1-mile (1.6-km) secluded beach adjacent to the Caribbean National Forest "El Yunque," provides a superb family environment and plenty of activities for spouses and children.

We plan a scientific program comprising 20 plenary talks-to provide comprehensive and pedagogical overviews-and 10 parallel strands-to explore topics in depth. We will explore the "intersections" between particle and nuclear physics in an environment where both communities can meet and share. The topics will span a wide range: from hot dense nuclei to cold dark matter; from deep-inelastic scattering to hadron spectroscopy; from tests of the standard model to consequences of the solar model. We encourage you to send nominations for invited speakers to cipanp2006@uiuc.edu. In keeping with CIPANP traditions, the last day of the conference will feature plenary sessions devoted to brief summaries from the parallel sessions. We also plan a special "outlook" talk by a distinguished speaker.

A new feature that we will add to the conference this year is a special "intersections" corner, with whiteboards, paper, comfortable seating, and plenty of room to talk physics informally with other participants.

We especially encourage the participation of young scientists, and limited "scholarships" are available for graduate students and postdocs.
