Financial Support and Special Program for Young Scientists

4/20/06—The YS Program is now full. However, young scientists wishing to participate in the Physics Communications short course are welcome.

We have received funding from University Research Associates and the National Science Foundation to support more than 24 young scientists (graduate students and postdocs) at CIPANP 2006. The selection process, detailed previously on this page, is now complete.

Besides participation in the conference, we will offer a short course on “Physics Communication Skills,” where experts will offer tips on the preparation of talks, papers, figures, and proposals.  An on-site technical editor will help review YS papers, and a technical communications "help desk" will be provided throughout the week. Although the selection has already been made of YS to receive financial support, we encourage others to participate in the short course, which is being provided at no additional charge.  Please indicate your interest by using the Contact Us form, so that we have adequate supplies of course materials available and so that we can include your name in our mailing list.

A reduced registration fee of $250 will be offered to all students(We are sorry, but the student fee does not apply to postdocs.)  To obtain the student fee, simply choose the “Student Registration” option on the normal registration web page.  While this registration fee includes the opening reception, four lunches, coffee breaks, and the proceedings, it does not include the Friday night banquet.  A reduced-fee banquet ticket may be purchased separately for $50.

A block of reduced-rate, shared rooms has been reserved for young scientists.  After April 21, discounted room rates are subject to availability. To request consideration for such a room, please indicate so on the Contact Us form.

We have a small amount of funding set aside to help fund student registrations and lodging, and we are seeking additional contributions.  If you are interested in applying for partial support to defray registration and lodging for the conference, we require a short (email) letter of support from your adviser.  Priority will be given to students who are giving talks, followed by young scientists (postdocs) who are giving talks.  Your institution may also be able to assist you with travel funds—ask early!
